The Post Party Season Skin Saviour!!

If you haven't over indulged on excessive amounts of food, alcohol and sugar this holiday season we would all like to know how you managed!?

If however, like us at Raw Skincare, you have eaten may too much chocolate, consumed a few too many cocktails and the calories consumed are past counting, your skin may be paying the price! Now it is widely debated whether food has an effect on the condition of your skin, however, personally I can tell when I have had a few too many bad eats, as do a large number of people I know. So we have devised a list of skincare commandments to get your skin back on track, ready to face the new year!

1. Eat plenty of healthy fats- When we say eat plenty of healthy fats we are talking about natural fats such as nuts, avocados, coconuts... and so on. Natural fats play a vital role in keeping your body looking and feeling healthy.

2.  Oh Sugar- If you are going to eat sugar, make sure it is from a natural course such as berries & don't eat too much of that either, sugars can cause inflammation and this is apparent in your skin too.

3. Drink Water- By drinking plenty of water it will help to flush out your system of toxins and help you to keep nicely hydrated. Your body needs water to function properly!

4. Go Grain- Cut down if not completely cut out anything "white" from your diet. This includes items such as pasta, bread, cake, cereal and so on. These are all processed and likely to be full of sugars. Switch to wholegrain and ensure it comes from the earth & hasn't been pulverised and moulded into something which resembles food.

5. Can it fly or swim?- If it can then its great to eat! Fish & poultry are fantastic sources of protein (if you eat them) but red meat such as cows can again cause inflammation. If it is a meat that you do enjoy, choose organic meat- it is more likely you will be eating meat that contains a lot less hormones that can affect your acne.

6. Don't use harsh foaming agents to scrub your skin of its breakout!! If over indulgence has left you broken out be careful how you cleanse. By removing all the excess oil from your skin, your skin will produce more. Use a natural oil to cleanse your skin instead! Oil will not cause you to break out unless you use chemically manufactured oils such as mineral oil.

7. Don't exfoliate daily- Exfoliation is designed to rid your skin of old, dead skin cells leaving behind lovely refreshed new ones! Your skin takes more than a day to produce a new layer of skin, by exfoliating too often you will leave your skin looking red, sore and inflammed.

8. Don't use tooth paste or nappy cream!- Seriously! These will be no good for your skin, they may bring down inflammation around your spot but will still leave your spots standing tall- the thought that you could dry out a spot is also incorrect- a spot is not made up of water and will therefore not "dry out".

9. Don't pick- Picking your spots can be very tempting, but unless it is a white head which can be removed (through the correct technique only) do not try and pick them- it will leave your skin red, inflamed and you may end up with scarring too.

10-  Remove all make-up- This might sounds very obvious, but don't forget to remove your make-up thoroughly. Leaving excess make-up on over night may end up clogging pores which can lead to spots.

We hope this brief guide has given you some insight into how to get your skin back on track this new year. Let us know what you find helps your skin when you have a break out!

Our Ingredients- Lavender Essential Oil

Every ingredient we use has been chosen for its fantastic botanical and skin loving properties. Lavender is no exception.
Lavender flowers

Lavender essential oil is made by distilling the lavender flowers of certain species to produce a clear, water insoluble oil which is what we use to produce our products

It is widely used for its soothing and calming effects to both skin and mind- perfect for those of you who might be in need of TLC and relaxation. Lavender essential oil is a very versatile oil with anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and relaxing properties which all help to make lavender oil one of our favourite ingredients to use as it is believed to aid in regeneration and rejuvenation of skin cells.

Because of the amazing properties in Lavender oil we have made sure they are in a selection of our products including Raw Concentrate Skin Serum & Repair & Revive Body Butter. So if you need a bit of TLC or some calming skin treats- look no further than these beauties.

Oil & Skincare

Over the psst decade, possibly more, "oil-free skincare" advertisement has been all over our tv screens, magazines  and radio stations. It is usually in products that are made specifically for those with oily skin- because who wants to add extra oil to their skin if they have oily skin right? Wrong.

Oil and your skin love each other, very, very much! By using products that are drying (and remove your natural oil) your body will work extra hard to produce more to help keep your skin moisturised. Now obviously no one wants oily skin, so how do you get rid of the oil without producing more oil? Add oil!! It's sounds all confusing and sounds like a down right lie, but it's not. One of the basic rules in chemistry is that like dissolves like. You wouldn't use water to dissolve oil or vice versa, but you would use water to dissolve water, and oil for oil. The same principal applies to you skin, if you use oil on your skin, it will help remove excess oil by dissolving/ emulsifying it.

Many people have become scared of using facial oils because of the idea that you shouldn't use oil on oily skin, but oils are actually wonderful for your skin and your skin will love you for using it. The amount of excess sebum you produce will eventually decrease and you will be left with much less oily and shiny skin.

Why not try out our 100% natural skin serum, packed full of skin loving oils that will help to nourish and protect your skin!

I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts.

When thinking about coconuts I instantly imagine myself laying on a beach in some exotic country with a scrumptious pinacolada in hand. The smell & taste is one of my favourites! Most people when thinking of coconut probably don't imagine themselves rubbing it all over their bodies! Please let me know if this actually you!

Coconuts not only provide us with fantastic foods and beverages, but they also provide us with a gorgeous oil. Not only does this oil smell amazing, it also has some of the most amazing skincare properties that will leave your skin feeling super soft and hydrated.

Coconut oil is a solid oil at room temperature but melts on contact with skin

We use coconut oil in a large proportion of our skincare including our body butters, skin serum and lip balms. It provides amazing nourishment and moisturisation leaving your skin feeling soft, supple and smooth. Which is why it is apparent in a large number of products that we produce.

Coconut oil is not only a fantastic natural skincare ingredient for providing soft gorgeous skin, it also has a natural SPF which is always a bonus!

Would You Eat Your Skincare?

When deciding what you are going to eat, or what you are going to feed to your children and family, it is probably fair to say that you consider your dietary requirements. You want to ensure it is tasty & filling but is also healthy and nutritious for you as well right? Well that is exactly what you should be doing with your skincare too!

It is believed that upto 70% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your blood stream! We are yet to find a scientific study that backs this claim up 100% but it is a daunting prospect none the less. If indeed our skincare is absorbed into our blood stream, this means it visits your organs and is filtered through your liver and anything nasty or unwanted is then filtered out in your pee! Wonderful. So choosing skincare should be as simple as choosing what to eat! If you wouldn't eat your skincare, why would you put it on your skin?

You want your skincare to smell great and feel lovely when you put it on, just like you want you dinner to smell and taste great. But you also want it to nourish your skin, protect it and make it look wonderful. Just like eating a healthy wholesome meal! Would you purposefully feed your body chemicals that you can't even pronounce if you knew it was in your food? Or allow known carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) to pass your mouth everyday? If the answer is no, the spa swear should also be the same when it comes to your skincare.

So now I have made you all feel hungry, thinking about tonight's yummy roast, or scrumptious pasta dish or what ever you will be eating, take a minute to check your skincare supply ingredients list and see what you are really feeding your body every day!

Our Ingredients- Shea Butter

Each Ingredient we select to go into to any of our products has to be a super ingredient. It has to have some proven reason as to why we think it is great for your skin. As we supply 100% natural skincare, we do not genetically modify our ingredients to out perform their natural counterpart, we do not use ingredients that have beenextracted, then processed, then extracted again and magically turned into something that is as far from its original state as possible. That is why we are very selective over what we do and do not include in our products.

So how did Shea butter get in to our ingredients super list I hear you ask?

Shea Butter is extracted from the nut of the Karite Tree. It is a natural fat that is rich in Vitamin A which is used widely in the cosmetic industry in anti-aging products, as it aids the skin in maintaining a youthful and healthy look. It also contains oleic acid which is a fatty acid, which provides moisturisation to the skin. It also contains compounds which act as a natural UVB ray protection.
Raw, Unrefined Shea Butter

We use Shea butter in a number of our products including our Hydrasculpt body butter, Repair & Revive Body butter, Rescue Me lip balm and more!

Exfoliation

Hi Guys,

So we have been super busy at Raw Towers over the past few months and have seriously neglected our poor little blog so we do apologise! However, onwards and upwards as they say (Not sure who they are but hey).

So we will now be posting a new blog every Tuesday and Thursday on all things skincare related. So if you have any thing you would like us to cover please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Today's subject is Exfoliation!

So what is exfoliation and what is its purpose?
Exfoliation is the removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin (sounds gross right?) By exfoliating you are aiding the unblocking of pores, keeping your skin healthy and clean & helps to prevent acne break out.

What do I use to exfoliate?
There are lots of different ways you can exfoliate, it is about finding a way that works for you. Below are some of the different tools you can buy that can be used for exfoliating.

Brush

 Loofah Sponge

                    Sugar Scrub

These are all really easy to use exfoliators. Every person's skin reacts differently so find one that best suits you, doesn't dry your skin out too much, and leaves your skin looking healthy and glowing, not red and sore.

How often should I exfoliate?
Exfoliating is not a daily thing! It is something you should do once to twice a week, again this depends on your skin type!

So I hope all these tips on exfoliating have helped! If you have any other questions please feel free to leave a comment and we will get back to you as soon as we can!
